NEW LAWN (SOD) MAINTENANCE:
- Water new sod 3 times a day for first 4 days; 2 times a day for next 4
days; once a day for next 4 days.
- After watering on this schedule for 12 days, let lawn dry out for a day
or two. Mow lawn on highest mower setting - diagonally against grain of which sod was laid (*important to use a sharp mower blade). Bag your clippings for first 4 - 6 weeks and then mulch clippings if desired after that period. Fertilizing is not necessary for at least 8 weeks.
LAWN MAINTENANCE:
- Start up sprinkler system by mid-April to May 1st by calling our office
in advance for an appointment. Water lawn every 2nd or 3rd day depending on lawn requirements during June, July, and August. Water on an “as needed”
basis during spring and fall months to conserve water.
- Aerate lawn twice a year in spring and fall. Apply 4 - 5 applications of
fertilizer during the season starting with weed and feed application in spring (April 15th) in conjunction with aeration; 2 - 3 applications of turf builder throughout summer; ending with an application of winterizer in fall in conjunction with aeration. Water winterizer into lawn very well and call our office for an appointment for sprinkler winterization. Due to our large volume of customers, you may call as early as August to secure an appointment for winterization from August 30th - November 15th. (This also depends on Colorado’s weather forecast, which is unpredictable at times).
- Apply a pesticide to lawn areas during mid - summer.
TREE & SHRUB MAINTENANCE:
- Apply fertilizer and pesticide in late spring. Pesticide may have to be
applied again later in the season if necessary.
- Water newly planted trees and shrubs deeply twice a week for first 4 - 6
weeks. Water once a week after depending on weather (be careful not to
overwater plant material).
- Water trees and shrubs once a month in winter (very important for new
plant material especially all evergreens). Trees will benefit more with deep root watering instead of surface watering. If a drought period persists in later winter months, water trees and shrubs twice a month.
Mulch all trees and shrubs if possible for more consistent water retention.
- Trim back selected shrubs and tall perennials in November after dormancy
(loss of foliage). Trim ornamental grasses back March 1.
- Remove all tree stakes after 2 years.
- Wrap deciduous trees with tree wrap to protect from winter sun; remove
wrapping after trees leaf out in spring.
